Bedroom Renovations Begin! 👷🔨

After a day and a half worth of graft with hammers, drills and screwdrivers our old grubby fitted wardrobes are now removed unveiling…. The grubby walls behind them! 😒

One bit of wood remains for now as there’s a plug socket and lamp behind them which we have booked an electrician to remove (lamp) and re-fit against the underneath wall with a nicer fixture (sockets).

Plasterer is coming to look and quote tonight for a full re-do of all walls and ceiling. Carpet company coming to measure on Thursday. Tomorrow we’re off to look at Furniture options in IKEA and John Lewis.

Being in this weird in-between phase is always messy. It was the same when we were redoing the media room. You feel like you’ll never be done and then suddenly it’s a fully functional room again and you wonder what all the fuss was about.

At least with the media room it was just a spare leaking room we didn’t even use so the disruption was kept to a minimum. With this being our bedroom the story is a bit different this time when it comes to doing all the work and re-arranging.

Thankfully with my eldest travelling Asia at the moment as well as the media room having a sofa bed we’re set up to have to move around as required.

Also, if I never see this goddamn bird wallpaper again in my life it will be too soon. I cannot wait to get rid of this. 🙅🦩

Anyway, time to rest my weary old bones now and wait for the plasterer to arrive!

👆I’m still very much enjoying playing with the Halide Mk III Public Previews B&W mode. I’m very excited to see how it evolves and it’s great whilst one of their team members have left that they seem to just be moving forwards with an energy and purpose. Very good stuff to see.

Chimney Chronicles Update!

After advising that the front chimney leaked again our builders have returned and performed the same level of repairs to the front as they did on the rear¹.

Stuff This Week #72

🦃🎄 Christmas is nearly here! At the hospital I work at the canteen does Christmas dinners every day in December, and as staff you get a discount. How could I resist!

If you wondered what an NHS Christmas Dinner looks like… Here you go 👍

We were joking that next year we should do some sort of charity challenge where we try and have one every day for as long as we can go. I think I might actually end up admitted to the hospital if I actually try that though! 😅

Hats off to the amazing canteen staff who make this happen. It must be such an operation to do this for a whole month for 100’s of people a day. 👏👏👏 Just one of the many parts clinical and non-clinical that makes the NHS so special.

A Two For One entry as I skipped a week! 🙇

I have ordered a magnetic screen door for our sun room after having to rescue 10+ bees this week that have made their way into the house. Hopefully it makes a difference and is as easy to fit as they promise. 🤞🐝

My family were laughing at the mix of old clothes I wore to paint in today. It was the sleeveless hoodie I customised myself ✂️ that they don’t think I can pull off! 🤣

Speakeasy Door 📚🚪

Me staring at the door to the study room we’re renovating and thinking about stuff.

“Hear me out, what if we were to take this door… and, and make it look like a BOOKSHELF! With real books on it and stuff! It would be like a speakeasy with a secret door! That would look so cool!”

My long suffering wife of 20+ years then explaining to me we take the recycling out via this door and how a “trick door would make this so much more of a pain in the arse”.

She then asks if I would even know how do make this said door with me replying “……no?”

I swear she walked off just like Bunk in the wire 😂 🤣

Stuff This Week #42

A twofer this week as I’ve not been posting quite as much recently. Just got quite a bit going on so just haven’t felt like posting quite as much. And that’s totally ok.

We got a quote for chimney repairs. It’s a LOT of money.

We love our house but we’re torn about pouring thousands of pounds yet again into this place and hoping it’s finally the end of our troubles vs just cutting our losses, selling up and moving out.

I’m off for 4 days now so we’re going to sit and talk through our options. 😕

Ikea upgrade was deployed today. You can never have a big enough pegboard 🔨

I still have lots of hooks and bits I can deploy. Just need to think of what to do with them🤔. Happy to have more space to work with though!

Friend gave me the tip of using diagrams.net to make a roughly to scale diagram for renovating my study so I can put potential purchases in the space and move them around. Works really well!

Everyone thinks they’re hot stuff until they are tasked with taking up a glued down vinyl floor with a hairdryer a hammer and a scraper 😅

Stuff This Week #38

Welcome one and all! It’s been a week of progress with house repairs being done, new blogs being worked on, posts being posted and just generally gettin’ it done darn it 💪

🍔 Someone at work informed me that Golden Arches Unlimited the official McDonalds merch store is open now in the UK. You’re talking to the man who made a friend through the desire to acquire a US only McDonalds sesame seed bun hoodie. What can I say? Sometimes the internet is Awesome.

It reminded me of another story of the internet and trust back when the very first iPhone released in the states and the UK launch was months away, I paid an unknown acquaintance on a video game forum ¹ the cost of the phone in USD and shipping charges hoping his offer was legit. The phone turned up a few days later and was perfect, which then resulted in me being a middle man for several other friends in the UK that just had to have the iPhone.

The leak is found! It is on an outside pipe. Needs new pipe rerouted to fix. Can be fixed hopefully by end of day Monday! Cold showers until then 😂

Feel a lot calmer knowing what and where it is though! The uncertainty is what gets to me.

What a gas

Well…apparently you can never have nice things in this world without keeping balance.

On the day I should be enjoying my new iPhone and sharing new gadget excitement I’m instead worried and stressed because after having our gas meter replaced yesterday a gas leak was detected and so our gas had to be shut off 🤦‍♂️

So we are without hot water and I’m awaiting a gas engineer coming around to find the leak and (hopefully🤞) fix it.
