Bikes and Micromobility Devices
What is a Micromobility Device?
A micromobility device is a small, lightweight vehicle for one person. Examples include, but are not limited to:
- Bicycles and e-bikes
- Scooters and e-scooters
- Skateboards
- Segways
Mobility Aids
Mobility aids are devices used by riders with disabilities including wheelchairs, walkers, or motorized scooters. These devices are always allowed on MBTA vehicles, in stations, and our properties.
Bike & Micromobility Device Rules
To keep riders safe and moving, we have different rules depending on the type of device you have.
Folding Bikes and Micromobility Devices
You can bring folding bikes and folding micromobility devices on all services at all times if they're completely folded.
Non-folding Bikes and Large Micromobility Devices
Standard bikes and non-folding micromobility devices that cannot be carried in one hand are not allowed in these situations:
- During rush hours (weekdays from 7 AM – 9 AM and 4 PM – 6 PM)
- On the Green Line or Mattapan Trolley
- On the platforms at Park Street, Downtown Crossing, and Government Center
- May be prohibited on certain holidays, during special events, or during service disruptions. Check service updates for current information.
Combustion Engines
Vehicles or devices with combustion engines are not allowed on the T at any time.
