  • We're calling on EU countries to start gas filling season and preparations in a coordinated manner for next winter amid energy disruptions in the Middle East.   The EU's security of energy supply remains protected at this stage due to our limited reliance on imports from this region and liquified natural gas (LNG) cargoes that passed the Strait of Hormuz before the conflict. But timely and coordinated preparations are key to ensure proper gas storage refilling for the next heating season, adapting to market circumstances and applying flexibilities.   Commissioner Dan Jørgensen said:   “𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 2022 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴, 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭-𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺. • Why does the EU strongly believe in bottom-up projects to deliver the green transition? Because without engaging citizens, we cannot achieve a just and long-term transformation capable of making the EU more resilient and competitive, for the benefit of all. Julien Tami, Policy Officer at DG Energy, explains more in this Citizen-led renovation interview. Enjoy the read ☕ 📰 link.europa.eu/gcG33Y #CitizenLedRenovation

    • Turning ambitions into concrete actions to deliver the green transition.

As the situation in the Middle East is escalating, rattling global energy markets, we in DG ENER are stepping up our preparedness and coordination. One of the key lessons learned in the 2022 crisis is that we are stronger together. That applies within the EU, among governments and industry, and it applies in relation to global partners. Among EU partners, we continue our close coordination to make sure we have data and share analysis. We are also looking at our regulatory framework to make sure we align implementation with market realities. One example is the guidance we have issued this week on speed and flexibility in the prior authorisation process for non-Russian gas under REPowerEU. Another example is gas storage in the EU. As we enter the storage injection season, Commissioner Jorgensen has suggested to EU Ministers to start preparations in time for next winter and in a coordinated manner, while adapting to market circumstances and applying flexibilities. Another lesson from the 2022 crisis is to align short-term action with longer-term strategic objectives. For Europe, the direction is clear - the energy transition through electrification, energy efficiency and accelerated deployment of home-grown clean energy is necessary also for our resilience, security and competitiveness. Europe’s security of supply is currently not at risk but the global situation and uncertainty in global markets is of deep concern. European leaders discussed energy in the European Council Thursday and, earlier this week, Commissioner Jorgensen presented an update to Energy Ministers in the Energy Council (TTE). In follow-up to the European Council, we in DG ENER are further developing a toolbox of possible measures, addressing the four components of electricity prices and working directly with Member States to help design measures to ease the pressure on industry and households.

🗣️Contribute to the EU’s post-2030 renewable energy framework! We have launched a 4-week call for evidence and a 12-week open public consultation gathering feedback to help create a post-2030 framework for renewable energy. Over the next decade, it will focus on providing reliable, affordable, homegrown energy for European citizens and industry, while ensuring renewables contribute to achieving the 2040 EU climate target in a cost-effective and sustainable way. The renewable energy framework will be developed alongside a new framework for energy efficiency (for which a consultation is also open) and in coordination with the revision of the EU Governance Regulation. Contribute to the 📅 call for evidence by 16 April 📅 public consultation by 12 June 2026 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eZusWPX9 #EUHaveYourSay

Against the backdrop of the conflict in the Middle East, avoiding any unnecessary barriers to imports of non-Russian gas coming into the EU is essential.    Today, we published 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 on the 𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐄𝐔 𝐆𝐚𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, clarifying certain aspects on prior authorisation of non-Russian gas imports. Today, 18 March 2026, also marks the first implementation deadline of the regulation: imports under short- or long-term liquified natural gas (LNG) and pipeline gas contracts, concluded or amended after 17 June 2025, are as of now prohibited.   More details in the news: link.europa.eu/TKvQ4X #REPowerEU #EnergySecurity

  • 💶 €241 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 will be needed by 2050 to deliver on EU countries’ nuclear ambitions. That's according to the Commission's final Nuclear Illustrative Programme (PINC) published on 10 March, incorporating the Opinion of the European Economic and Social Committee of December 2025. Such investments will cover both the lifetime extension of existing reactors and the construction of new large-scale facilities. PINC also highlights the need for additional investment to realise the potential of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs), microreactors and fusion technologies, in support of a sustainable and secure long-term energy future. The Commission will therefore create a €200 million guarantee to support private investment, as detailed in the recently published SMR strategy. ➜ https://lnkd.in/evDBWdPd #NuclearEnergy
